The A6 is Audi’s long-running mid-size luxury sedan model. In the face of rising crossover popularity, this stylish four-door caters to fans of traditional luxury cars. Audi last redesigned the A6 for the 2019 model year.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the A6’s base model gets an upgrade to its infotainment and digital gauge displays, while premium grades get new driver safety assists.
Available Trims
Audi offers the A6 in two trims, and with two different powertrains. Both Progressiv and Technik trims start with a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine (designated 45 in Audi-speak), and either can be optioned with a 3.0L turbo V6 that comes with a 55 designation. Both engines include a seven-speed transmission and AWD.
Standard Features
Progressiv trim comes with 19-inch wheels, auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors and an auto-dimming rearview mirror, LED headlights/taillights, panoramic sunroof, passive keyless entry, heated front and rear seats, three-zone A/C, electric steering column adjustment, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and ash wood dash trim.
The A6’s high tech kit comprises a new-for-2022 10.6-inch touchscreen, navigation, and an upgraded digital gauge display. Carried over from 2021 are Apple CarPlay and wireless phone charging. Safety features include pre sense city, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear cross-traffic alert, and exit warning.
Technik trim adds LED matrix headlights with washers, four-zone A/C, ventilated front seats with four-way lumbar, power trunk operation, electric door closers, rear sun shade, Bang & Olufsen audio, and head-up display. This trim also adds safety kit: surround-view cameras and pre sense rear are carried forward from last year, while new-for-2022 items are adaptive cruise control, active lane departure warning, intersection and traffic jam assists, traffic sign recognition, and emergency and predictive efficiency assists.
Key Options
In Progressiv trim, a convenience package adds a topview camera, rear sun shades, and ventilated front seats. You can also choose a driver assistance package that includes the Technik model’s advanced safety features.
Technik offers a contour seat pack with 14-way front seats with massage, posher leather upholstery, and leather dash and armrest trim.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates are 10.2/7.4 L/100 km (city/highway) for the A6 45’s four-cylinder powertrain, and 11.1/7.8 L/100 km for the 55 version and its V6.
Competition
The Audi A6 faces off against the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, along with the Genesis G80, Cadillac CT5, and the Lexus ES. And though the Kia Stinger doesn’t wear a premium name, it’s an upscale mid-size sport sedan in every other sense.
